New Obour compounds & projects

All projects

New Obour City is a new urban community run by the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) east of Cairo, alongside the Cairo–Ismailia Desert Road. It is a separate city from the established Obour City.

Establishment and size

The Cabinet approved the city in May 2016, and Presidential Decree No. 249 of 2016, published on 9 June 2016, set its area at about 58,914.4 feddans. The Armed Forces retain ownership of six sites inside the city totalling 13,769.819 feddans. The foundation stone was laid on 1 March 2018.

Location and roads

The Cairo–Ismailia Desert Road forms the southern edge, and the Middle Ring Road connects to the city. Two links are under way: the 5.8 km R3 road between Al-Amal and the Middle Ring Road, and the 11.2 km R4 road from the Middle Ring Road to the Cairo–Ismailia Desert Road.

Character

The city mixes government housing with regularized residential plots. The Housing for All Egyptians project in districts 15 and 16 covers 638 buildings with 15,312 units. Plots in Al-Qadisiya, Al-Amal and Al-Tala'e are being handed over to owners after public lotteries. In March 2026 the city authority said it was preparing to tender 23 new utility projects, mainly to service the lands added to the city.

What sets it apart

Its very large footprint allows a mix of social and middle-income housing, plots and investment sites, and an eastern gateway is under construction. NUCA also offered a 97,636 m² university plot on the Desert Road in May 2025. The city is still in its build-out phase, so buyers should follow the authority's official announcements.
